Ran the moth trap again last night, it felt a little cooler than in previous evenings, so the air of anticipation wasn't quite as high as maybe it should have been this morning when checking what had dropped in. I find the exciting bit about moth trapping is that you really don't know what's going to be in the box when you peer in, having slept through all this nocturnal activity that people rarely see. This mornings catch was modest in number again but turned up a real beauty, literally!

Oak Beauty
The Oak Beauty was one of the moths I was hoping to trap this spring and this one certainly didn't disappoint! This species, like a lot of moths, can vary in intensity of markings and colours, but this one is a fairly text book classic.
